ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) _ Have you ever signed up to win a prize, then gotten a call saying you'll only get the gift after listening to a timeshare pitch?

That likely means sitting through several hours of sales talks in what may be a high-pressure atmosphere.

Timeshares may make sense for some people, depending on their lifestyle and vacation preferences. Typically timeshare owners pay thousands of dollars over a period of years, plus annual fees, for a share in a property with a weeklong resort vacation. Destinations can be swapped.

For owners who regret the investment, a timeshare exit industry has sprung up to help them shed the deal.
