I have a simple proposal to make to the U.S. Congress. A budgetary swap, on behalf of the elderly and disabled Americans: repeal the corporate tax cuts in the 2017 Tax Cut and Jobs Act (TCJA), and add back into the budget the Medicare dental, vision, and hearing benefits.

When elderly people were first created, they had no eyes, ears, and teeth. For this reason, when federal lawmakers got around to enacting Medicare insurance for seniors in 1965, they didn’t include vision services, hearing aids, and dental care.

Sorry, Joe Namath. Despite what you keep saying in those TV ads, under Medicare, seniors are not “entitled to eliminate copays and get dental care, dentures, eyeglasses, prescription drug coverage, in-home aides, unlimited transportation and home-delivered meals, all at no additional cost.”

Some of the biggest gaps involve dental, vision and hearing services. Medicare does not cover dental cleanings or root canals. It doesn’t cover everyday eyeglasses and contact lenses. It doesn’t cover hearing aids.
