TheFiftyPluslife wins award from travel journalist’s group

The North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) announced that TheFiftyPlusLife and reporter, Fyllis Hockman, won Silver place in the 2015 NATJA Awards Competition in the Illustrated Story, Online Publication category.

Hockman’s article, Hiking through History in Southern France, was submitted to the 24th annual awards competition, which honors the “best of the best” in travel writing, photography and destination marketing that cover all aspects of the travel industry worldwide.

“This is an amazing honor to receive after only one year online,” said Sondra Shapiro, TheFiftyPlusLife founder and Publisher. “I am proud to receive recognition for our design and the quality of our news offerings for baby boomers. We are excited to have Fyllis as part of the team.”

The NATJA Awards recognize excellence in travel writing, photojournalism, and destination marketing. Submissions for the awards competition grew by more than 20 percent from last year.

This year’s entries reflected an array of truly excellent journalistic and creative work. “Finalists and winners will be gratified to know that their work was judged by seasoned journalists, photographers and PR professionals with literally hundreds of years of experience. NATJA wishes to express its deep gratitude to all its judges for hours of work in reviewing this year’s entries,” stated NATJA CEO Helen Hernandez.

A remarkable panel of judges, including celebrity photographer, teacher and author Elizabeth Messina, whose body of work has appeared in major publications, reviewed this year’s journalism entries.

NATJA is the second largest travel media association in North America.
